Month of May
A good word spoken in season can be life giving. May is a month that we appreciate our school teachers, our Mothers and the Asian Pacific Community. Everyone can use a kind word of appreciation. These words should be spoken throughout the year and we know our human tendency to forget, so we set aside dates to help us remember.
Teachers are recognized in May because it is the end of another school year. It is also one of the most stressful times for teachers as they administer end of grade tests. A kind word or an act of kindness to affirm our appreciation of teachers makes a difference. I have watched my own wife be encouraged through the years as others have recognize her sacrifice of giving herself for teaching. I am so appreciative of all our churches who make the effort to recognize our teachers in worship services and to bring gifts of appreciation to their local school so that teachers will know how much we appreciate them.
May is also the month in which we recognize our Mothers. One of our former pastors who lives in Puerto Rico shared a short poem this week.
When I was born naked
You gave me clothing
When I was hungry
You fed me
When I was thirsty
You gave me to drink
When I was an orphan
You adopted me
I was sick
You gave me Benadryl
I was in the hospital
You watched over me
I was crying
You gave me love
Thank you Mommy
Happy Mother’s Day
Feliz dia de las Madres

Thank you Sadot for continuing to share in our ministry in the Beacon District. Our prayers continue with you and for you.
The Outer Banks has a vast International Student presence that hold jobs and help serve vacationers during the summer months. Many of these students are Asian Pacific in origination. Many of our churches have members who are a part of the Asian Pacific Community in our area. The Coast Guard base and the Norfolk Military bases give us a very diverse community in the Northeastern area of North Carolina. When you have the opportunity, share a kind word to encourage our brothers and sisters of the Asian American Community.
A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in
due season, how good it is! – Proverbs 15:23
A word of affirmation ignites good feelings and makes a difference in the lives of others. When we speak words of affirmation, it reminds others of God’s love for us all. Be intentional this month in affirming others. Just think what would happen if we ignited a revival simply with the affirmation of others with our words. Be those Christians that share the Good News in this Easter Season. It is a good time and a due time for sharing a good word.
Winning them to Jesus,
