Dear Beacon District Churches,

I want to introduce myself. I’m Tom Hallberg – Pastor of Hertford UMC in Hertford, NC, and the Beacon District Representative of Congregations for Children (C4C). Prior to entering the ministry, I was a teacher and also trained to be a school administrator.

C4C has a few main goals:

1. Enhancing Kindergarten through Grade 3 literacy skills
2. Providing for children’s basic needs
3. Increasing parental involvement and interaction with positive adult role models
4. Advocating for community and governmental support of public education

I invite your church to consider becoming a Congregation For Children. You can do this in countless ways – from holding school supply drives to volunteering as “reading buddies,” advocating for public schools to state and local officials, and the list goes on!
