Sands of the Seashore and Stars in the Heaven
Our coastal communities have a unique view of the world. When walking on the beach, your feet connect with grains of sand too numerous to count. Looking to the heavens, the stars seem brighter than anywhere else you have gazed and the multitude is far too many to count. It seems endless the number under my feet and over my head. And God gave this promise…
Genesis 22:17 – New Revised Standard Version
17 I will indeed bless you, and I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of their enemies,
This promise is for a future. The future is one that is unlimited. It is not a future of just enough and then no more. It is a future that is endless and more than one can count. It is not a future with an end, rather it is a future with an eternity. It is a future not in bondage and oppression. No, it is a future where we shall possess the gates of our enemies. Our God provides all of which we have need and then more. Our God is full and overflowing. Our God is about increase and abundance. Our God is not limited but limitless.
And yet walking on the beach and realizing the grains of sand and the stars in the sky, I also remember that every hair on my head is counted. We don’t get lost in God’s numbers. No matter how many, God still values the one. The “you and me” are known by name by the God of the Universe. He counts us valuable; so much so that God sent His only Son that we might have life and have it eternally. How valuable are you? Are you lost in the sand or in the stars?
Luke 12:7 – New Revised Standard Version
7 But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Stop and take a moment to recognize how much God loves you. Stop and try to count the hair on your head. God knows every one of them. Rest in the knowledge that the God of the Universe has arms around you that will carry you through life and into an eternal future.
Winning them to Jesus,
Gil
