Beacon District Helps Begin New Day for Victims of Isaias Disaster
Work teams from the Beacon District returned today (8/5/2020) to Morning Road. The devastation is overwhelming. Rev. Tim Fitch, DRC (Disaster Relief Coordinator) led a team that assessed 15 homes. One of the residents called Tim by name and with amazement in their voice exclaimed “You Returned”! Tim replied, “Methodists don’t leave until the job is complete.” Relationships have already begun with our work teams to help the community in Windsor to rebuild. The neighbor to neighbor support is inspiring as residents and volunteers share together in the clean up following the Tornado spawned by Isaias touched down early Tuesday morning.
Our team assessed the damages so that work teams may be organized to continue the cleanup. Homes need to be tarped. Yards need to be cleaned of debris. And one of the most important things that our team found today was that the residents just needed to tell their story. Our ERT (Emergency Response Team) was there to listen. This community of around 50 homes outside of Windsor is made up of homeowners. Many have insurance and the immediate assistance that our teams brought today gave hope to a broken community.
The recovery efforts are needed for volunteers that can assist this community in rebuilding. Please contact the Disaster Response toll-free number and volunteer your help so that we can rebuild these lives.
